Thank goodness for Baking Soda

Yesterday I had a fire in my stove as I had forgotten that I had tucked some stuff in the oven to hide it from our guests on Saturday. I had totally forgotten that I has put that stuff in there so I set the oven to 400 and went back in the living room where the kids were playing then all of the sudden I heard a big pop and went to see what was going on only to suddenly remember that I had put stuff in there on Saturday so I shut it off however there was a pretty big fire by now the plastic bowls I had in there were all melted and there was smoke billowing out of the vent hole like crazy so I quickly opened all the windows down stairs at this point Kieran was freaking out so I tried to calm him down and think of what i could use to put out the fire I couldn't use water, we don't have a fire extinguisher so I was going to call the fire department when I remembered that baking soda would do the trick so I put on the oven mitts grabed the box of baking soda and put out the fire Thank god for baking Soda or I would have had no choice but call the fire department which would not have been good! the oven was a huge mess but luckly all the melted plastic came off really easly except for a few spots in which I used a butchers knife to scrape it off. we lost 2 plastic bowls a muffin pan and an oven rack so my lesson is learned do not put anything in the oven for any reason other then to cook it right away.
